Catfight Report Movie Review: The Player's Club

CATFIGHT REPORT MOVIE REVIEW
THE PLAYER'S CLUB

Fan of exotic dancers?

Wanna see some of the top black actors before they hit it big?

Then check out The Players Club (1998); a movie written and directed by Ice Cube.  It features turns by Jamie Foxx (before his Oscar turn in Ray), Bernie Mac (pre The Bernie Mac Show) and Terence Howard (prior to his stellar turn in Hustle & Flow).

The star character is Diamond, played by LisaRaye.  Diamond is a young, single mom struggling to make ends meet.  When two dancers, Ronnie and Tricks, come into the shoe shop where she is working, they convince her to make use of “what God gave you” and join them at "The Players Club", the strip joint where they work.  Diamond eventually starts to work at the club and begins making good money.  But when Diamond’s cousin is gang-raped at a party (that dancer Ronnie takes her to and abandons there)...... Diamond is out for revenge!

The big catfight is between Lisa Raye (Diamond) and Chrystale Wilson (Ronnie).

The fight that ensues in the dressing room between Diamond and Ronnie of the club is "hardly" the type of stuff that passes for a catfight these days.  Closed fists, kicks, and stomps........the kind befitting a fight between two men........ are on display here, completely dispelling the notion that women are ‘the weaker sex’.

Diamond gets her revenge as the fight is pretty much one-sided with Ronnie getting the beatdown and left in a bloody heap after a long back and forth with no interruptions!  Adding insult to injury........Ronnie is arrested post-fight for being an accessory to the aforementioned rape.

While this could hardly be called a catfight, the beating Diamond gives Ronnie is refreshing as it shows what a really pissed off woman is capable of.

Anybody think that LisaRaye would be capable of such violence in real life?

Personally, I don’t think I’d want to test the stunning Chicago native and feel the wrath one of her hard punches she throws in the film.

I would recommend this film for the outstanding fight between LisaRaye (Diamond) and Chrystale Wilson (Ronnie).
