How is the Economy and the Recession impacting the Catfight and Female Wrestling business?

Is the Economy hurting the Catfight business?

The words "recession" and "bailout" are now common words used at almost every household table. Governments all around the world are printing currency like it's going out of style.

As bureaucrats scramble to devise more ways to tax it's constituents............and citizens all over the world are hedging for ways to make ends meet......................we openly wonder how the recession is impacting the Catfight and Female Wrestling business.

Are sales up? Are sales down? What exactly are our heroic entrepreneurs doing out there to weather the storm against possible hyperinflation and depreciated currency?

We took some time out of our busy schedule to send some interview questions to a couple of businesses that have been in this industry a long time.

Here are the questions and responses:

DOUBLE TROUBLE WRESTLING (DT WRESTLING)
4 QUESTIONS:

1. Do you feel a world recession, combined with inflationary pressures, will impact the Catfight-Female Wrestling business in a positive or negative manner?

DT WRESTLING: The recession will of course have a negative effect but I don't think it will be near as severe on us as in other sectors of the economy, as entertainment has historically been somewhat recession proof.

2. Where does the majority of your business come from currently from a geographical standpoint? (ie: United States, Great Britain, Russia, etc)

DT WRESTLING: The majority of our business still comes from the U.S. but we have seen a dramatic increase of our foreign buying, Spain, Italy and Germany are big and the Asian market is now on the rise. We are seeing customers from so many different countries now that I can't always figure out what the country code is - it is truly global and we love it !

3. How is the economy impacting your business right now?

DT WRESTLING: Right now D.T. is doing great but we have also made some major changes to our way of doing business to counter the current economic situation. For several years we put two matches on most DVDs; this year we’ve increased that to three. We’ve also raised the number of new HQ(high quality video) downloadable matches from our old standard of 10-12 per month to as many as 25. We also now feature up to 20 of our catalog matches newly offered as HQs each month and about 20 more offered as regular downloads. For our customers on a tighter budget, we continue to offer low-priced streaming of both previously unreleased and catalog matches - our philosophy for this recession is to offer more to choose from, at prices everyone can afford.

We have also started new sections: Fresh Faces (new girls), Epics (extended length matches divided into 2-3 segments), Classics (vintage matches originally shot on film), Superheroine Adventures (George Perez's Sisterhood of Superheroines) and next month we will be starting a pro section where all of our pro matches will be in one section, with two new ones added each month. Our Fresh Faces and Epics are always in HQ format at a redued price.

(Catfight Report Note:   The Pro Section is up at DT Wrestling!)

While our HQ videos are the highest quality you will find, as is our streaming, we are already working toward the next step: High-definition video, offering crystal-clear widescreen downloadable matches and Blu-Ray discs. Get ready for lots more from DT.

4. Piracy is on the rise. For example, "Producer Videos" seem to be popping up on youtube at an increasing rate. All over the world people are using the internet to profit from works they did not create. How do you intend to survive creatively in this type of environment?

DT WRESTLING: Piracy has always been a problem but we have also found that most female combat fans know that piracy affects not just quality of what’s available, but also the prices everyone has to pay. Many of our customers tell us when they see questionable products that we should know about, and we have one of the best security teams in the business, ready to work with our loyal fans to keep the problem under control.

What the piracy issue really comes down to is quality, and we know that anyone satisfied with watching our matches on YouTube or elsewhere probably wouldn't be a customer anyway. But those who want to see HQ video that jumps off that screen, who want to feel the blows and hear those moans of pain, we know they come directly to Double Trouble. It’s those discerning customers who have always enjoyed genuine Double Trouble videos, and in fact they are here now more than ever - AND THEY'VE GONE GLOBAL !

RESPONSES FROM STEEL KITTENS

1. Do you feel a world recession, combined with inflationary pressures, will impact the Catfight-Female Wrestling business in a positive or negative manner?

STEEL KITTENS:  First of all, all business will be affected in a somewhat negative fashion by the world’s recession. All businesses will have to make adjustments for inflation, if and when it occurs. At Steel Kittens, we view it as an opportunity for change; to improve on our already high standards of business practice. One good thing, about the female wrestling community, compared to other forms of entertainment, female wrestling remains relatively inexpensive and has better bang for the buck.

2. Where does the majority of your business come from currently from a geographical standpoint? (ie: United States, Great Britain, Russia, etc)

STEEL KITTENS:  Steel Kittens is a worldwide business. We are lucky to have a huge fan base of loyal customers from every walk of life and from all over the globe. Female wrestling is just that kind of sport. It appeals to a broad variety of people and cultures, alike.

3. How is the economy impacting your business right now?

STEEL KITTENS:   As with everyone else, we are making adjustments in our business model to ensure that we remain cost competitive and have the highest quality matches available anywhere.

4. Piracy is on the rise. For example, "Producer Videos" seem to be popping up on youtube at an increasing rate. All over the world people are using the internet to profit from works they did not create. How do you intend to survive creatively in this type of environment?

STEEL KITTENS:  Pirating has always been an issue for any kind of visual media. In today’s world it’s only getting easier for the thieves. However, it is also getting easier to catch the thieves. We maintain our copy writes and rigorously enforce them. We do not hesitate to prosecute those we catch pirating our work. The female wrestling producers community does a great job in banding together to police pirated material. We continue to work together, increasing our knowledge base of strategic methods for preventing and terminating piracy and thievery.

5. The hallmark signature of a company that survives a recession usually deals highly in what is called "value". Catfight-Female Wrestling companies are not a "need". They are a "want". This makes the job that much tougher. Knowing this, and knowing you need to "up" your value to be competitive, what kind of things can we look for from your company in the near future?

STEEL KITTENS: Steel Kittens will continue to produce high quality matches, with great talent and great action, only adding to our wonderful diverse library. We remain competitively priced, which makes our products “the best value” available anywhere to all female wrestling and mixed wrestling fans.

THANK YOU STEEL KITTENS!

Hopefully, you found this article informative.   We would like to hear the opinions of our readers as well.

If you were a wrestling company, or if you are a wrestling company now, how are you coping with the current challenges?     Are they a blessing or a curse?

Please support the two businesses above by visiting their websites and purchasing some catfighting videos.    As fans, if we want to continue getting high quality material, we have to open our pocketbook and give these companies our support.

Let's hear those comments!

Good article. One figures since, I believe (tho I could be wrong), both are based in California (a state whose citizens are taking a financial beating lately), they must be taking a harder hit than usual in just producing matches with the hopes that they'll sell. On the plus side, though, their product is pretty good (tho, for me, I'm more of a DT kind of guy ;) ), particularly when compared to several of the upstart companies. The matches might be scripted but the women tend to sell them better than some of their lower-end competition. To be sure, the economy prevents me from buying as much as I'd like; so much so that I've had to content myself w/ the affordable 2-3 minute clips from assorted clipstore.com outlets.
