(but pleasing the catfight fans)
By Mr. Blue
One of the more encouraging developments in recent years has been the number of women who take their catfights seriously.
These include the new breed of stuntwomen (think Zoe Bell) as well as actresses who are not afraid to handle their own action scenes. A recent example of the latter is actress Paula Patton, who reportedly handled much of the fight scene with Léa Seydoux in the latest Mission: Impossible film.
For political correctness reasons, the ladies probably refer to what they do as female combat. Semantics aside, these women know that a good “girl fight” is what most men (plus more than a few women) want to see.
Today’s stuntwomen often have a background in martial arts and take their craft as seriously as anyone (gone are the days when that jungle girl swinging on a vine might have been a stuntman wearing a blonde wig).
Some of you may not have heard of them before, but there is a group of accomplished stuntwomen, martial artists and aspiring actresses who formed a performance group known as Kung Fu Femmes.

They put on live shows but the group also produces clips depicting women in various forms of combat, often as a pure demonstration piece but sometimes with a storyline.
And while the ladies do not appear nude (too bad), they seem to realize that sexy costumes don’t hurt the visual appeal of their performance.
Earlier this year, Kung Fu Femmes released a fantastic short film called “Angering the Gods”, which should have gotten more attention than it did.
Produced and directed by a male martial artist named Tony Laudati, the story involves a famous female entrepreneur (played by Amy Johnston, an all-American blonde) whose new line of jewelry proves too tempting for a world-class cat burglar (played by Drinie Aguilar, an exotic looking brunette).

The ladies eventually face off in a warehouse with no one around (except for us lucky viewers) and they will battle until one girl emerges victorious.
This type of clip shows you don’t need a huge budget or Hollywood style effects to produce a great catfight.
All that’s necessary are two sexy ladies who know how to handle themselves and a storyline that’s worth watching, plus a director who knows how to film a fight scene and is willing to let the ladies mix it up.
The result may not be perfect but “Angering the Gods” is better than most catfights served up by the established Hollywood studios.
Take a look.
